JJStudio Award for Emerging Jewellery Artists

 
JJSTUDIO is operated by jewellery artist couple Jay Joo and Alice Yujing Yan. Both artists have been working on various series exploring three-dimensional structure and surface in their personal body of works. In their individual practice, Jay and Alice are each inspired by structure and surface but in very different ways. Both artists had a very different Training background, which showcases in their personal body of work.

JAY JOO
Originally from South Korea, Jay Joo received his BFA from the Jewellery and Metalsmithing program at the Ontario College of Art and Design University. During his years at OCAD University, he has acquired a diverse skill set that includes traditional fabrication, chasing and repousse and computer aided design. He was accepted into the Harbourfront Centre's artist-in-residence program and was awarded a scholarship in 2012. After his residency, he established JJSTUDIO on October 1st of 2015.

ALICE YUJING YAN
Alice Yujing Yan is originally from China where she received a BFA degree in animation. In Canada she decided to study jewellery and began metalsmithing at NSCAD University, receiving a BFA in Jewellery Design in 2014. Yan has shown her work through North America, Europe and Asia.

Formerly the Ontario Crafts Council, Craft Ontario is a not-for-profit service organization that works to have craft recognized as a valuable part of life. We promote and celebrate professional craft through providing member opportunities, and advocate for craft practice by educating and empowering diverse audiences.
