Formerly the Ontario Crafts Council, Craft Ontario is a not-for-profit service organization that works to have craft recognized as a valuable part of life. We promote and celebrate professional craft through providing member opportunities, and advocate for craft practice by educating and empowering diverse audiences.
Shawna Munro is an artist and instructor currently living in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She received her Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of Windsor and her Master of Fine Art from the University of Manitoba.
Shawna’s work focuses on her relationships with family and friends—specifically her mother. She has been examining the parallel actions we take in our daily lives that are obsessive and escapist in nature. Shawna's mother’s obsession is a passion for reading Romance novels, while her own is the repetition and labour-intensive quality of using domestic craft as a medium in a studio practice. Through her work, Shawna explores themes involving sexuality and the subversion of traditional craft practices.
