JOON HEE KIM
FUSION DESIGN AWARD

Joon Hee Kim is a Canadian artist originally from Seoul, Korea. With a great desire for learning and creativity in diverse fields, her pursuit of learning began with Graphic Design studies in Canada. After working extensively as art director in South Korea, she combined the passion for design with patisserie studies at Le Cordon Bleu of Ottawa. With various experience and skills as a designer and chef, she studied Ceramics at Sheridan College where she graduated with high honour. Her practice continued with MA Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts in London U.K., where she received the Cecil Lewis Sculpture Scholarship.

Brimming with personal anecdotes and engaging narratives, her work was exhibited in Canada, U.S.A, and U.K. Exploration of different spheres of art was the biggest part of her studies, and her sculptures are striking in their complexity and technique to the desired depth and refinement, as they are created through multilayered casting process. Her work is contemporary object of record and communication conveying persevering burden of human relationships, behaviours, and emotions, reflecting personal and mysterious aspects of life. Through innovative challenges of daily life, she received many awards including from Ontario Craft Council plus scholarships, Volunteer Committee Emerging Professional Award from Craft Ontario Council, Best of Craft and Design, and Best of Ceramics at Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition.
