Jewellery Showcase: Vivienne Jones

Influenced by her surroundings from growing up in Wales and drawn to the versatility of metal, Vivienne Jones' work often reflects on our relationship to nature and man-made architecture. Her jewellery work exhibits an intuitive, layered, organic approach predominately utilizing combinations of silver with gold and natural materials.

Vivienne was born in Wales and studied at the Birmingham School of Jewellery in England and moved to Canada after graduation, locating permanently in Toronto. She has maintained a long career as a contemporary jewellery artist selling her work through her own studios, galleries and by participating in curated exhibitions in Canada and beyond. In 2003 she was elected into the Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts.

Spending her formative years in a coastline town with years old stone work and wrought iron stayed with Vivienne as influences for her artwork. That landscape has stayed in her psyche and influenced the work with forms and designs that reflect nature as a recurring theme.

In her studio practice Vivienne is interested in the subtle but varied palate of metal and the array of forms and detailing and texture one can achieve.  Her use of symbolism is often a way to suggest our connection to nature evolving while we live in more complex and evolving times with a general growing sense of ambivalence and questioning. To represent this, Vivienne has incorporated more obvious symbols like the question mark and the ladder into forms resembling vines and fruits.

Craft Ontario is displaying a collection of work by Vivienne Jones in the Craft Ontario Distillery Shop from May 43 - June 22, 2025. A curated collection can also be viewed in the Online Shop!
