Nudibranch
We're all carrying something. Cynthia O'Brien imagines what the smallest creature in the world might carry on their back with her nudibranch sculptures - from mushrooms to fences there's a nudibranch for everyone.
Porcelain, hand built
Approx. 13 x 7 x 7 cm, sizes vary slightly
Ottawa ceramic artist, Cynthia O’Brien has honed her skills while constantly examining life’s emotions.
The intimate sculptural and installation pieces express emotional subject matter, through the beauty, strength and fragility of nature. She uses minimum glazes and colour and loves the human touch left in the finished work.
Cynthia makes clay Nudibranchs (a small colourful sea slug). Intrigued by the idea that the smallest of creatures would carry the world on their back. “We are all dependent on each other… even when one of us is a bit slimy!”
Recognized by her peers through Awards from Ontario Arts Council, Craft Ontario and Canada Council for the Arts. Her work can be found in the collections of the Art Gallery of Burlington, City of Ottawa, Canada Council Art Bank and Taiwan Yinngi Museum.
