Nichol Marsch is a Métis artist/artisan from rural Manitoba/Treaty 1 Territory. She has a mixed media art practice that involves various mediums including beadwork. She enjoys making functional and decorative beadwork pieces as well as merging the medium with others. She has learned bead working from various teachers including friends, fellow Métis artists, and leaders of Métis beading circles.
Nichol also works in multimedia sculptural installation. Her practice is self-reflective and explores concepts of social constructs, determinants of identity, place and invariability. Through abstraction and a focus on process and materials, her work represents lived experiences and observations of the realities of living within social structures and dealing with superfluous habitual/mundane acts to facilitate intro- and extrospection of the unstated. Marsch's installations often combine traditional craft with contemporary practices.
