The name Cabossé relates to the artist's building technique. He is rough with the clay, pushing it hard and demanding a lot from it, making the medium apparent by leaving the marks in the forms. The same applies with the fired works and the surface treatment. In the end, Grenier's forms appear banged up and somewhat mangled, which is the meaning of the word cabossé in French.

Ceramic (multiple low firings)
12.5 x 21 x 4.5 in.

François Grenier is a ceramic artist working in abstract and figurative sculpture, with a practice grounded in  material research and conceptual experimentation. Over the past decade, he has developed an  investigative approach to surface and form—primarily using paper clay at low fire to explore  layered, textured, and chemically complex skins that defy traditional glaze logic.

His work has been exhibited in solo and juried shows across Ontario and is represented at ARTspace  Gallery, the Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery, and the Gardiner Museum gift shop.
