Toronto-based artist Jeannie Pappas’ creatures are at once surreal and deeply human. Each one has a life of its own, made up of toothy smiles and subtle gestures, with gritty personalities, painted in a palette of pastel hues. She creates a micro world in which the viewers are invited to dwell, pulling them into a kind of alternate universe. Jeannie’s work is incredibly personal, yet reassuringly universal. Her process relies on a solitary relationship between artist and material; in each pinch of clay, stroke of paint, she infuses the works - consciously and subconsciously - with her personal feelings and experiences.

Pappas attended Sheridan College, Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD), and is a graduate of The Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) where she received numerous awards. She has exhibited across Canada and the US. Her works can be found in private collections internationally.
