Dale Tomlinson grew up on the Canadian Shield, surrounded by lakes, rivers, granite formations, and dense forests—a landscape that first shaped how she sees the world. She has long been drawn to geometric forms and unexpected angles, particularly those found in rural buildings weathered by time and decay.
Inspired by her mother’s love of textiles and handcrafted objects, Tomlinson developed a lasting appreciation for colour, beauty, and the act of making. In 2011, she began studying with Master Artist Nancy Crow, an experience that deepened her commitment to quilts as both an art form and a means of personal expression. In 2018, she left a long career in the not-for-profit sector to pursue full-time work as a studio artist.
Dale Tomlinson is a contemporary quilt artist who uses colour, line, shape, and proportion to create striking sewn compositions. She works improvisationally, often developing a single idea through a series of quilts to explore its full potential. Her work reflects a close observation of the natural and built worlds and the ways they influence one another. A proud Muskoka Arts & Crafts member.
