Residing in Akulivik, a small village in Nunavik, the arctic region of Quebec, the carving style as well as the type of stone found in the area differs from those of Nunavut. Stone found in Nunavik is much harder, and is therefore more difficult to carve. Carvers in the region thus have a more expressive style with expressive gestures and faces rather than fine details and naturalism.
George is a prolific carver who does his best work in small to miniature sizes, yet also carves larger pieces. All of his work is consistently impressive because of his attention to detail. He carves many subjects but often is drawn to bears, otters, seals and hunting scenes. His mother is Lily Alayco, and his father is carver Solomonie Alyco.
