Sylvaine was born in France. She was brought up and educated in France. She moved to Nottingham in the United Kingdom in 1975 in order to learn the English language and ended up staying in Nottingham for 20 years. She worked in a wide variety of positions, none to do with crafts. She was brought up in an environment in which craft was not highly regarded considered as a hobby, not a way of life. Where being an artist was not considered a viable way of making a living.

Sylvaine came to Canada during the 1990’s and she met her husband Bob Solomon, a Chippewa Cree from the Saugeen Reserve. He is an accomplished and respected carver. Upon her introduction to his culture, she discovered and fell in love with beadwork. She had one lesson - designing and creating her first pair of earrings. She has not looked back, designing and inventing new beading styles to create truly unique and exquisite works of beautiful jewellery.
