Parr Parr is a carver from one of the largest communities in Nunavut, Kinngait (Cape Dorset), which is the oldest and largest co-operative in the Arctic.
Carving from stone he finds on the land, Parr Parr approaches traditional subject matter (inukshuks, animals and objects) with a clear design aesthetic. Strong, clear lines delineate a strong attention to the minute details of the natural world, as well as the complexities of tools. Working with traditional subjects allows Parr Parr to highlight Inuit culture through his work.
Using a mixture of modern and traditional tools, Parr Parr carves and polishes his sculptures to a high shine to better show the beauty of the natural serpentine stone.
