Blow Raspberries - Sculpture
A sculpted sgraffito head with its tongue sticking out. Jaxx Bonnamie’s ceramic sculptures use the figure to explore queerness and lived experiences of otherness. The sgraffito carving is print-like in quality, with etched lines that read like drawings pulled directly from the surface of the clay.
Cone 6 stoneware and self vitreous glaze
Approx. 13 x 12 x 13cm
Based in Southwestern Ontario, Jaxx Bonnamie is a neurodivergent transgender ceramist. His work combines a long time love of illustration with ceramic work through a technique called sgraffito, wherein designs are carved into unfired clay and slip. Through visuals that are often both morbid and a little raunchy, he creates striking pieces of art that are sure to spark conversations.
