Juliana Scherzer is a textile artist working out of Nova Scotia, Canada. Juliana works primarily in free-motion embroidery on water soluble fabric to create 3D structures out of thread. These three-dimensional thread sculptures reflect drawing in both their creation and final form resulting in a duality of the flat and the 3D. This reflects the duality of the known and unknown places of textiles in our lives, a concept she seeks to explore through various subjects.
Using textiles Juliana seeks to explore various subjects and concepts and to then share these explorations through her work. Currently, Juliana's main interests lie in biology, the vein of her thesis work, and in history. Juliana hopes to create work that engages the viewer in the same ways she is engaged with these topics while creating her work.
Previously, Juliana was an Artist-in-Residence at the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design.
